Subject:  Where to eat for Prom?


      Asked by the peers attending my limo for prom, I have researched numerous restaurants in search for an appropriate place to dine for the special occasion. After researching menus, pricing, and quality of food, I have narrowed down the choices to 2 locations; Bucca Di Beppo and the Hard Rock Cafe. With everyone attending being able to subject to anything, I developed a criterion that will accommodate our needs:

1. Cost
2. Food
3. Appropriate to attire (non-messy foods)

RECOMMENDATION

      I recommend that we dine at Buca Di Beppo because its classy style and well managed restaurant fits perfectly with the classic prom style theme. In addition, the restaurant offers group sized plate menus that will cut the dinner price dramatically. The food is made to an excellent quality and tastes fresh. They also offer themed party rooms for groups that will add more memories to the prom experience.

DISCUSSION

COST

With 9 couples, totaling to 18 people, having to pay for prom, graduation, and upcoming college expense, the location must be able to give us more bang for our buck.

Buca Di Beppo

Buca offers group sized plates that will reduce the cost with as many people as we have.  A plate of spaghetti at normal price would cost $10 dollars but I group sized plate would only cost 10 dollars more and feeds up to 8 people.

Hard Rock Cafe

The cheapest plate at the Hard Rock would be a char-broiled hamburger at $13 dollars. It's a bit more expensive and they do not offer group sized plates.

Conclusion

Buca Di Beppo will feed our entire group for under 200 dollars and we would all each get more to eat and a wide variety whereas the Hard Rock, they only offer single plates and they cost a lot more to purchase. Buca will leave more money in our pockets and our stomachs satisfied.

FOOD

The food must be of quality and fit the tastes of the 18 people attending. The resturaunt must have a variety of dishes to accommodate everyone.

Buca Di Beppo

Buca offers mainly Italian food and most people in our group prefer Italian food. However, Buca does offer other items, such as hamburgers, to people who do not wish to eat Italian. In addition, Buca only uses top quality ingredients in there cooking and have top chefs from around the world prep the food.

Hard Rock Cafe

The Hard Rock offers the "all-American" foods such as steak, and chicken cordon bleu. The food is of good quality but does not offer an assortment of dishes that will satisfy everyone accordingly.

Conclusion

Buca Di Beppo will satisfy everyone's different tastes for food while also giving a home-style feeling.

APPROPRIATE FOR ATTIRE

Because everyone will be in elegant and expensive dresses, we need a location that is mess free and will not ruin the really expensive tuxedos and dresses if there was to be an accidental spill on them. In addition, the restaurant must also be fun and be compelling to the customers.

Buca Di Beppo

Buca offers a wide selection of party halls for big groups. One in particular is the Pope room. This room has a round table in a secluded circular room that sits people in a way where everyone can talk with the entire group without having to shout. However, Italian food is quite messy but, a resolution has been made. The weekend before prom, an apron party will be held and everyone will make and bedazzle aprons to cover their dresses or tuxedos for dinner. It will add more fun to the entire prom experience and make the group bond more.

Hard Rock Cafe

The Hard Rock Cafe does not offer special party rooms for guests to attend. In addition, the Hard Rock sits people in traditional style in front of everyone else; no secluded rooms.

Conclusion

Buca will make prom a more thrilling and exciting experience. Buca offers many dishes that can fit to our style and the apron making process will give everyone an additional experience that no one will ever forget.

Shirley Temple: Americas Princess

Birth/ birthplace:

On April 23, 1928, Shirley Jane Temple was born in Santa Monica, California to the parents of Gertrude Amelia Temple and George Francis Temple.

Family:

Shirley Temple was the only girl out of her 2 other siblings. She had 2 older brothers named George Francis Temple Jr. and John Stanley. Her mother, Gertrude Temple, was a homemaker while her Dad, George Francis Temple, worked at a successful bank as a manager. Shirley’s family kept to themselves and never really had many people over because they valued family bonding and keeping the paparazzi out of the Temples’ lives. In fact, Gertrude made it a rule that on Sundays, Shirley was not to go to the movie studio and work because Sundays in the Temple home were considered family time.

Childhood/Early Life: 

By the age of 4, Shirley Temple was already working as a child actress. Her mother, Gertrude, had a dream that she would one day have a little girl whom she could turn into a Hollywood star. When Shirley was born, Gertrude made sure to do just that. Shirley never went to a public school as a child. Because of her successful childhood career, Shirley had to be home schooled so other kids would not swarm her like the paparazzi. She was home schooled on her movie sets 3 hours a day until her acting career took a fall and she then started the 7th grade at Westlake school for girls.  It wasn’t until Shirley Temples “12th” birthday that she learned she was actually turning 13 years old. Gertrude had changed shirleys age to appear that she was one year younger so that Shirley could earn more movie roles during her young acting career.

Career:

Shirley Temple started her Career at a very young age. With her mom wanting a child star in the family, She had put Shirley in dance and singing classes by the age of 2. It was not until the age of 4 had Shirley landed a small acting job at Educational Pictures in a small film series called Baby Burlesques. In 1933, Education Pictures went bankrupt and Shirley signed on with Fox films. It was not until a year later, in 1934, had Shirley received her “big break” with the film “Stand Up and Cheer”. Within the first week of release of her movie, she became the symbol of family wholesome.  With her new found fame, Shirley went on to create “Bright Eyes” and “Little Miss Marker” in the same year. Shirley’s career took off like wildfire. Businesses wanted to advertise her on their posters and merchandise sellers wanted to sell Shirley Temple products. Before she reached the age of 6, Shirley Temple was one of the most top paid actors in the world raking in a whomping 6 million dollars a year. Shirley continued to thrive in the movie industry putting smiles on everyone’s face who came to see "Americas little princess" perform on the big screen.  It was not until 1940 when Shirley Temples career had started to decline. She was now growing up into her teenage years and was losing her touch as a “cute” girl with charismatic charm. With the release of “The Bluebird” flopping in box offices, Shirley Temple had been let go of her acting contract and her parents sent her to an all girls school. She continued her acting career in small rolls but never in anything big that would revamp her career the way it had once been.

Marriage and Children:

Shirley Temple had a very authoritative Dad growing up during her childhood and so on September 19, 1945 Shirley married John Agar to escape her dad‘s strict control. Shirley and Agar had a baby girl, Linda Susan Agar, together however, their marriage did not last long. By December 1950, Shirley Temple had divorced Agar. During her divorce, however, Shirley had met a man named Charles Aden Black who she married in December of 1950, right after her divorce had been finalized. The couple relocated to Washington where they had a son, Charles Aden Black Jr.,  born on April 28, of 1952. After a while, the family moved to California where Shirley and Charles lived together for 54 years until Charles died on April 4, 2005.

Later Life:

Following her passion for television, Shirley hosted a television show called "Shirley Temple's Storybook". She then decided to make career in Politics. Temple had decided to drop the Hollywood scene and focus her time on the political problems of America. She became active in the Republican party of California, appointed the Representative to the 24th United Nations General Assembly, and also appointed United States Ambassador to Ghana on December 6, 1974 thru July 13, 1976. Shirley had a hard time getting rid of her Shirley Temple name in her political work field but managed to have her co-workers fall in love with her.

Anecdotes:

1.) Toward the end of 1972, Shirley had been diagnosed with breast Cancer. The tumor was phenomenal and so a radical mastectomy was performed. After the operation, Shirley announced to the world and talked openly about breast cancer; making her one of the first women to ever speak freely about the subject.

2.) In 1935, 6 year-old Shirley Temple was awarded the first Juvenielle Oscar trophy at the 7th annual Oscar Awards. In September 11, 2002, Shirley was awarded a life size Oscar in exchange for her miniature Oscar awarded more than 50 years prior. Her life size Oscar currently stands at the Fox studios lot where it will remain forever.

PALM CAFE

      Dressed in thigh high hooker boots paired with a white cut off mini skirt and revealing shirt, portraying the role of Julia Roberts’ prostitute outfit in the movie Pretty Women,  3 year old Paisley Dickey strutted her stuff across the pageant stage in a recent episode of Toddlers and Tiaras. If seeing a toddler pounce around in a prostitute costume is not demoralizing enough, 4 year old Maddy Jackson was dressed in a hot pink cat suit, padded to produce a littler version of the curvy country singer Dolly Parton, in an earlier episode. The mother tried to defend her daughters Dolly Parton costume “enhancements” but she had no argument over what the public had to say.

Viewers were outraged by the drastic measures mothers on the show are taking to ensure that their daughters receive the title to the crown. On the shows Facebook page, followers had nothing more to say except negative comments asking the same questions, “When will enough be enough,  Where will the line be drawn for these mothers, and Do these “mothers” see nothing wrong with dressing their daughters up in such provocative ways?” These mothers are priming their daughters futures by making life, in toddlers eyes’ , to appear as materialistic. The question now is, “When will someone speak out?“ Sure, people have complained about the episodes produced and criticized its morality, but no one is taken preliminary actions as to stopping these episodes from happening.
Unsurprisingly, TLC has had no comment on the provocative episodes they have been showing, but why should they? A spokeswomen against the TV show stated, “There’s no question, TV executives are complicit in robbing these small kids of their childhood”. Why would the company want to pull episodes from time slots when it is bringing in media attention and more revenue to their company? They could care less if the girls grow up to be nothing more than the characters they portray themselves to be. As long as they can pay the bills at home, they will allow toddlers to run across the stage naked if they wanted to. That’s when the question is asked, “What is America becoming?” Where has America’s morals gone? When has it become socially acceptable for a toddler to promote herself in such a negative way? Better yet, why are the mothers allowing this? Do the mothers not think of all the child sex offenders who watch this show due to the lack of clothing and sexual actions the girls are forced to make? Why aren’t the mothers realizing that what they are doing is wrong?  Thankfully, The PTC  (Parents Television Council) has had no problem finding words to express this controversy.
“We have a serious problem when the learning channel features a toddler, who probably hasn’t even learned to read, dresses as a prostitute showing off her sexy strut” PTC spokeswomen told Entertainment Magazine. The PTC is outraged by the controversy of these episodes and is pulling all its cards to try and limit the choices mothers can make. They argue that not only are the clothing choices ridiculously inappropriate, but so are the decisions of the mothers who put their daughters though hour long make-up and tanning session. These young girls are being transformed from little girls to young women. When these girls get older, they are going to depend on make-up and beauty products because they were taught that only those things can make you beautiful. These girls will never feel comfortable in their own skin because they were raised to wear pounds of make-up, false nails, false teeth, and self tanners.
So the question lies, “Will the show start bowdlerizing its episodes to ensure the safety of  these young girls, or will they continue to degrade them until something horrific happens”. The viewers and critics will have to keep arguing their sides until something is done.
